Log into the AEA website through the links above. You will then be able to select and register for the session you want.
Your login information is the same email/password you use when logging into the AEA Learning System (Mandatory Reporter, self-paced classes, etc.). Participants creating a new account will not be able to view courses until the next business day. Course descriptions

101: FOUNDATIONS OF COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS IN IOWA
Provides an overview of the current state of college and career readiness in Iowa for all participants; prerequisite for all other College & Career Readiness Academy courses. (2 credits)
201: CREATING IOWA’S COLLEGE AND CAREER READINESS CULTURE
Focuses on the distinct yet interrelated roles of teachers, school counselors and administrators in creating the systems that support a college and career readiness culture; includes emphases on equity and utilizing district plans. (3 credits)
401: PLANNING AND THE DISTRICT’S ROLE IN CREATING A STUDENT-CENTERED CAREER AND ACADEMIC PLAN
Targets the roles of district staff and administration in ICAP processes, including counseling, career planning, transitions, postsecondary opportunities, and issues of equity relative to special populations. (2 credits)
501: AN INTRODUCTION TO PLANNING, ACCESSING, AND FINANCING POSTSECONDARY OPPORTUNITIES
Provides an introductory overview of the college application and financial aid processes. The purpose is to better prepare school counselors and other college access professionals in supporting students and families as they navigate the complexities of applying to postsecondary institutions and financing various options. (3 credits) 

Complete 101 through 401 and earn a College Access Professional Certificate.
Complete 101 through 501 and earn a College Access Specialist Certificate.
Complete 101 through 601 and earn an Equity Badge.

Workforce needs have changed dramatically over the past few decades, and a high school diploma isn’t sufficient for most careers providing family-sustaining wages. This is rooted in the global shift from an industrial to knowledge-based economy. Many communities are facing a misalignment between college degrees and labor market needs, so students aren’t prepared for careers that are high-wage, in-demand and high-skill, and employers cannot find qualified employees. School counselors need to understand how to share information about the economy as well as labor market information to guide students and their families in exploring career options. Explore the current and emerging labor market, and describe how to use labor market information with students and their families. Additionally, learn how Career Technical Education (CTE) can be a tool in connecting students with programs leading to meaningful credentials and in-demand careers.
CTE Opportunities and Ecosystem
Oct. 29, 2019, 1-2 p.m. Eastern
School counselors are the most trusted sources of information for students and their families when considering education and career options. As such, it is important to understand all the educational pathways available to students, including CTE. CTE can help set up students on a path to a successful high-demand, high-skill career. However, families do not have a full understanding of the various components and benefits of a high-quality CTE program of study along with CTE’s intersection with workforce demands and labor market information. Walk away with information and examples of elements of high-quality CTE programs of study, the benefit and value of CTE and the various types of CTE delivery systems and models in existence throughout the nation.
Career Exploration and Development with a Focus on Implicit Bias
Nov. 19, 2019, 1 – 2 p.m. Eastern
A successful career advising and development system must respond to learners’ interests and provide career awareness and exploration for all – not just those enrolled in CTE. Such a system must seamlessly span the full career advising and development continuum from elementary through postsecondary and include wraparound services, accelerated learning strategies and connections with local employers to ensure smooth transitions into the labor market.

Student and Families’ Attitudes about Career Technical Education
Nov. 26, 2019, 1-2 p.m. Eastern
School counselors have a vital role in helping students and their families understand the options CTE offers. Increase your awareness of CTE with key audiences including students and parents. Learn about a national research study on students and parent perceptions of CTE, what students and parents what to hear about CTE programs of study and how to incorporate the findings into career advisement activities.
