Updates on Career and Academic Plan

Here is the latest on the Career and Academic Plan (formerly 8th grade Core Curriculum Plan) Iowa Code 279.61 as revised by HF 2392:

The career standards team recommendations and Iowa code are currently being used to develop the administrative rules. Below please find the timeline (although Amy describes it as a moving target) for next steps.

Attached you will find the report from the career standards team and their recommendations to be drafted into administrative rule.

State board convenes to review HF 2392 amendment to Iowa Code 279.61

CIS vendor applications posted to IDOE web site
June
Career Standards sub-group invited to review CIS vendor applications (July and August)

Career Standards sub-group invited to be part of the RFI (Request for Information) process for vendors to present CIS products and be named as the Iowa State-designated career information system.

On or around June 11, State board of education reviews and HF2392, Division I, which are effective upon enactment and school districts need to have implemented by the school year beginning July 1, 2016.

On or around June 15, HF2392 is effective upon enactment.

Iowa Department of Education releases vendor requirements and posts requirements to IDOE web site.
July
IDOE and sub-group begin review of CIS vendors to give conditional (six month to one year approval) to vendors for academic year 2017.

IDOE posts list of approved vendors on Department web site.

This two-day event is designed to improve school climate and culture through professional development, skill building and application of the best practices and research.

By fostering an educational philosophy that values and promotes diversity, Gruwell transformed her students' lives. The work for the Freedom Writers has received attention around the world.

The Ride!

The bus for RIDE 2016 (June 12-15) is filling up faster than ever before!  This three-day bus tour provides a door-to-door, first-hand look at college campuses and what each school offers students with hands-on learning and even overnights in residence halls! All transportation, meals, and lodging are taken care of by host colleges and Iowa ACAC.
This year we visit NIACC, Waldorf University, Wartburg College, University of Northern Iowa, Allen College, Hawkeye Community College, Luther College, Northeast Iowa Community College Calmar & Upper Iowa University, with overnight stops at NIACC, UNI, and Luther.
Each participant pays a $25 non-refundable registration fee to hold their spot. All schools represented by registrants who participate in the RIDE will receive a one year institutional Iowa ACAC membership for their whole office. Make sure to share this professional development opportunity with your counterparts throughout the state.
