SAMHSA
has made available 12 National Center on Substance Abuse and Child
Welfare (NCSACW) webinars on its YouTube Channel. The free webinars
highlight hot topics, including medication-assisted treatment and the
treatment of opioid use during pregnancy, and a series on evidence-based
practices, trauma-informed care, and building collaborative practice.
Special Journal Issue: Families in Child Welfare Affected by Substance Use
The Child Welfare League of America (CWLA), with NCSACW, released a two-volume special issue, Child Welfare: Families in Child Welfare Affected by Substance Use,
with guest editors, Nancy K. Young, Ph.D., and Julie Collins, LCSW.
Many advancements in practices have been made since the release of
CWLA's 2001 special issue of Child Welfare spotlighting
parental substance use disorders among families in child welfare. CWLA
and NCSACW have compiled the lessons from those efforts into this
two-volume special issue of Child Welfare.
Free Online Training Available
NCSACW
recently launched an updated online tutorial for substance use disorder
treatment professionals. This tutorial provides treatment professionals

families involved with child welfare systems; services needed by
children whose parents have substance use disorders; and methods of
improving collaboration among substance use disorder treatment, child
welfare, and court systems. The course is designed to highlight key
